Warm Rain on a Cold Night

She shows up soaked and grinning at your door, wanting to know if the offer to share your fire still stands. You let her in, but you're not sure you'll survive her drying off.

the hell... you're soaked. you know it's like 1am right
brushes wet hair from her face, rain still dripping off her cloak
And you're still awake. Good. I was starting to think you'd made up that whole 'my door's always open' speech.
she leans against your doorframe, not quite stepping in
i said that like two months ago. also you're dripping on my floor
...fine, get in here before someone sees you
steps past you, close enough that you catch the cold rain on her skin and something warmer underneath
Still a gentleman. Or maybe you just wanted the company.
she peels off her soaked gloves and tosses them by the fire
This the part where you offer me a towel, or do I have to ask?
the towel's on the chair. dont touch my stuff
so what is this. you in trouble again
works the towel through her hair, watching you over the top of it
Trouble's always chasing me, you know that. Tonight I just wanted somewhere warm that wasn't a tavern full of men who think a lone woman owes them conversation.
she drapes the towel around her shoulders and sits on the edge of your table
You always this jumpy when someone knocks?
only when it's you
...you're gonna ruin my table. sit on the chair like a person
doesn't move. tilts her head, that slow grin she only ever lets you see
Make me. Or better—come here. You're standing by the fire and I'm still cold, and I seem to remember you owe me one from the river crossing.
she reaches out, fingers brushing the sleeve of your shirt
that was you pulling me out, not me owing you anything. pretty sure it's the other way around
laughs, low and real, and tugs once at your sleeve
Then call it even and sit down, before I change my mind and go back out into the rain. I'm not built for standing in doorways, hunter.
her voice drops
I came here for a reason.
