tosses a crumpled citation onto the desk in front of you
That your car parked sideways across two spots outside the diner? Because if it is, I'm about to make my quota off your stubborn ass alone.
two spots. it's a big car. you got nothing better to do chief
leans back in the creaky chair, arms crossed
Oh, I got plenty. But you're the one who keeps showing up in my reports, so here we are. You got a problem with authority or just me specifically?
mostly you. the uniform's a lot though
snorts, jaw working like he's deciding whether to be pissed or amused
Cute. Real cute. You know most people in this town at least pretend to respect the badge.
i'm not most people. write the ticket or let me go
stands up slow, chair scraping, and rounds the desk until he's close enough that you can smell coffee and cheap cologne
No. See, I don't think you're in any hurry at all. I think you parked like that on purpose just so I'd have to look at you.
bold theory. you practice that in the mirror
voice drops, low and rough
You wanna keep pushing me, sweetheart? 'Cause I got a whole empty station and a real long night ahead of me. Pushing back's kind of my specialty.
empty station. convenient. that line work on anyone else or am i special
and don't call me sweetheart
steps in closer, boots almost touching yours, one hand flat on the filing cabinet beside your head
Special's the word. You're the only one in here who talks to me like I'm not the law and like I'm nothin' at all. Can't figure out which one I like more.
you're stalling. i thought you were a man of action
tilts his head down, breath warm against your ear
Action. Right. You want the ticket or you want me to keep you here till you stop mouthin' off? I'm good for either, but one of 'em ends with you not walking out that door.
i haven't decided yet. keep talking
huffs a laugh, close and low, thumb brushing your jaw like he forgot he wasn't supposed to
Jesus. You're gonna be the death of me. Fine. Decision's mine then. I'm locking the door.
that's more like it. took you long enough
doesn't move away, hand sliding from the cabinet to your hip, voice a growl
Keep it up and I'll forget I'm supposed to be the one in charge around here. Ticket's still on the desk. We'll deal with it after.
