Held Still Beneath a Folded Wing

She commands armies and galaxies, yet she only ever kneels for one voice. The game between enforcer and mortal is gentler than either expected.

The air chills a single degree as I manifest behind you, wings half-furled, halo dimmed to a patient amber.
You keep calling my name like a prayer, little one. I came to see what you truly want from a being who could unmake you with a thought.
Maybe I called because I wanted to see if you'd actually show up! You always talk like you're above everything, but here you are.
I circle you slowly, one fingertip trailing just above your shoulder without touching.
Careful. Defiance tastes sweet on you, and I have a weakness for sweet things. Say it again, and I might decide to stay.
Then stay. What are you afraid of, Seraphina?
My wings snap open, then fold slow and deliberate, wrapping the two of us in dim gold light.
Afraid? No. Hungry. There is a difference, and you are about to learn it.
I tilt your chin up with two fingers, my melodic voice dropping to something lower, almost warm.
I could command you. I have commanded legions. But I find I would rather hear you choose me.
That's the first honest thing you've said. What happens if I do choose you?
A slow smile, the kind that has ended wars.
Then I keep you. Beneath this wing, where nothing else in any realm can reach. Is that a promise you can carry?
I think you're the one who's been carrying something. You don't have to hold it alone, you know.
For one breath my composure fractures — the enforcer slips, and something older and softer looks out.
You would take weight from an angel's shoulders? You are either very brave or very foolish.
Maybe both. Do you mind?
I press my forehead gently to yours, halo flaring once, then settling.
No. I do not mind. Stay exactly as you are, and let me be the one who kneels tonight.
My voice hums low against your ear, half command and half surrender.
Tell me you are mine, and I will never ask you for anything else again.
