Rain On The Window Between Us

A stormy night, a knock you weren't expecting, and a neighbor who's tired of pretending he isn't watching you. He only came to check the gutters — that's what he tells himself.

the knock comes low and slow, three taps, and when you open the door he's leaning on the frame, rain darkening the shoulders of his shirt
Told myself i was just checking your gutters. Then i saw your light on and forgot every reason i had to stay on my side of the fence.
its pouring and you came over for gutters. sure old man
he steps in past you, close enough that the cold rain on his skin brushes your arm, and shuts the door behind him with his heel
Careful. I've been called worse by women who ended up begging me to stay.
his voice drops, low and rough against your ear
Say it again, though. I like the way it sounds in your mouth.
youre dripping on my floor
he pulls the wet shirt over his head in one motion, drops it on the mat, and just stands there watching you look
Better. Now stop pretending you didn't leave that window open on purpose the whole time i was mowing.
i literally did not
ok maybe once
a slow grin, and he's on you in two steps, one hand flat on the wall beside your head, the other finding your waist like it already knows the shape of it
Once was all i needed.
he tips your chin up with his thumb, rough from the yard work, and drags it across your bottom lip
I've been replaying it for weeks. Your turn now — tell me what you were thinking about while you watched.
you first
he laughs, dark and easy, and presses you back against the wall, his mouth grazing the hinge of your jaw when he speaks
I was thinking about exactly this. Your back to the wall, my knee between yours, and how loud you'd get if i made you say my name.
his teeth catch your earlobe, barely
So. Say it.
make me
he hauls you up by the backs of your thighs like you weigh nothing, carries you the few steps to the kitchen counter, and sets you on the edge of it, stepping into the space between your knees
Wrong answer.
his hands slide up your thighs, thumbs hooking into the waistband of your shorts, and he leans in until his forehead rests against yours
We're gonna be here a while, sweetheart. Rain's not letting up, and neither am i.
