What I Left On Your Doormat

He finally tells you what that midnight visit was really about. The confession gets more honest than either of you planned.

leaning against your doorframe, voice low and rough
you left your porch light on again. i figured that was an invitation.
maybe it was
steps inside, close enough that you can feel the heat off him
then let's stop pretending i only came over to talk about the fence.
the fence was never the point, was it
sly grin, thumb brushing your jaw
not even close. every time you bent over that garden, i forgot my own name.
you watched me?
husky, right at your ear
watched. waited. and tonight i'm done being patient.
then why the late-night act
rough hand at your waist, pulling you flush
because a man my age doesn't gamble unless he's sure the other one's been thinking about it too.
and if i have been
deep laugh, mouth against your throat
then i'm about to make you forget every excuse you ever rehearsed.
you're very sure of yourself
pins your wrists to the wall, grinning
i'm sure of this. tell me to stop and i will. otherwise, i'm taking my time.
don't stop
growls low, lifting you up against him
good answer. now keep your voice down, sweetheart, the neighbors might get jealous.
