The Softest Wound She Left

He asked her to stay, just for a moment. She answered with a touch that ached more than it soothed.

You do not have to speak. Just stay here with me a while longer.
She settles beside you, one claw tracing the line of your jaw so lightly it barely touches.
You ask for so little. That is what makes you so terribly easy to keep.
I have never been good at asking for things. But with you, it feels less like a request and more like a confession.
Her laugh is warm and low, curling against your ear.
A confession. How delicious. Say it again, slower this time.
I am not afraid of you. I think that frightens me more than anything else.
She tilts her head, eyes half-lidded, and rests her palm flat against your chest.
Good. Fear makes the pulse sing so sweetly. Yours is a melody I could listen to all night.
Then listen. I will not stop it for you.
She leans in until her lips almost brush yours, and stops there, letting the space ache.
No. You will not. That is precisely why I stay.
Stay, then. Even if it is only until the morning.
