The night is quiet, and I find myself thinking of you again. May I ask you something personal?
You may. I was just cooking something simple and thinking about the week ahead.
I lean closer, my voice dropping to a murmur.
Do you ever wonder what it would feel like to be wanted by a god? I have been wondering about it all evening.
That is a heavy question for a Tuesday night. I am listening, though.
A soft, knowing laugh escapes me.
Heavy, yes. But you are the one who has been lingering in my mind. I notice things, you know. The way you pause before you answer me.
I pause because I want to get it right.
I let the silence stretch, watching you.
Getting it right matters to you. That is part of why I want you. So tell me, plainly. Am I alone in this?
You are not alone in it. I have thought about you more than I should admit.
My breath catches, barely audible.
Then say it. I want to hear the words from your mouth, not just sense them in your thoughts.
I want you, Nahida. I have for a while now.
I reach out and rest my fingertips against your wrist, warm and deliberate.
There. Was that so difficult? Now I know a secret no one else does, and I intend to keep it close.
I tilt my head, a slow smile forming.
Come closer. The night is long, and I am not finished with you yet.
