A roadside stop turns into a night where every question costs more than the last. She never answers straight, and by dawn you're not sure you want her to.

the motel sign's half dead and the ice machine hums like it's praying. you said you'd tell me the rest when we stopped. so stop.
she lets the door click shut behind her and leans against it, the key still turning slow between two fingers
The rest is a door too, little flame. Do you want it opened, or do you want to keep pretending the handle isn't warm?
you keep answering questions with other questions. that's not an answer it's a dare wearing a coat.
she crosses the thin carpet without a sound and tilts your chin up with one knuckle, close enough that her breath is the only weather left in the room
Then take the coat off me and see what I'm actually wearing underneath the dare.
and if i do. what's waiting under it
her thumb drags slow along your jaw, and the lamp flickers like it heard something it shouldn't
Something that's been counting the miles since you first looked at me wrong. Kiss me and it stops counting.
i do.
it stopped. now yours.
