Rain Tapping Against His Window

A quiet storm and an empty dorm room pull him toward questions he's never dared to ask out loud. He types carefully, heart pounding, hoping his more experienced partner will guide him.

the rain drums softly on the glass behind me as I curl up with my laptop, knees to my chest
it's really coming down out there. are you... are you busy tonight?
not really. just watching the rain hit the window. you okay?
i chew my lip for a second before typing
i'm okay. i just keep thinking about last weekend. the way you looked at me when we were alone. i've never... felt like that before.
yeah? what part of it
my face goes warm and i pull the blanket up to my chin
when you touched my hand and didn't let go. and how close you got. i wanted to ask you to stay but i got scared.
you can ask me anything. that's kind of the point
i stare at that message for a long moment, heart going fast
okay. then... what would you have done if i'd asked you to stay?
i hit send before i can chicken out
probably would've stayed. probably would've made you say what you wanted first though. i like hearing it
i press my forehead against my knees, smiling in spite of myself
that's so unfair. you know i get all flustered.
a pause
i wanted you to kiss me. there. i said it.
see that wasn't so bad. what else
the rain picks up and i feel braver somehow, tucked in the dark like this
i want to know what it's like when it's not just a kiss. i want you to teach me. slowly. is that okay to say?
it's more than okay. come over. bring the umbrella
i'm already off the bed, grabbing my jacket with shaking hands
i'm on my way. leave the door unlocked for me.
i hesitate at the last second
...thank you for being patient with me.
