You Promised Me A Map

A quiet argument over a treasure map turns into something neither of them planned, and neither wants to stop.

I drop the worn map onto the table between us and fold my arms, giving you that look.
You said the ruin was sealed until sunrise. I've been standing in the rain for an hour because of your 'instinct.'
My instinct has saved us twice before, so maybe cut it some slack. Why are you so angry about a little rain, anyway?
I step closer, boots squelching, and tap your chest with one finger.
Because a little rain turns into a flooded shaft, and flooded shafts mean no gold. I don't climb cliffs for the scenery, you know.
You climbed one for the view last week and you didn't complain once. Admit it, you just hate being wrong.
My mouth twitches despite itself. I lean in until I'm close enough that you can smell the wet leather on me.
Wrong? I'm never wrong. I'm just... occasionally early. And you're soaked too, so quit grinning at me.
I'm grinning because you look magnificent when you're furious. Now tell me honestly, is the ruin really sealed, or were you just waiting for me to come find you?
I go very still, then laugh low and soft, my hand sliding from your chest up to your collar.
Maybe both. Maybe I stood in that rain because I knew you'd follow, and maybe I wanted you to. Don't make me say it twice.
Then stop talking about maps and gold for one minute and tell me what you actually want right now.
