the rain hammers the windows as I knock, a little too softly for the noise
Sweetheart, the power's out on my side of the house... and I got to thinking about how dark it gets in here. I laugh, but it comes out shaky
Mind if I borrow a little of your light? Or just... you?
I step in before you even answer, hair damp, robe clinging where the rain caught me on the porch
Oh, it's warmer in here already. I linger close, close enough that you can smell the rain on me
You don't mind me dripping on your floor, do you?i mean... you're already in. towel's on the chair if you want it
I don't reach for the towel. I reach for your sleeve instead, fingers curling into the fabric
You're always so calm about everything. my voice drops, trembling just under the words
Does nothing ever make your heart race?depends who's asking... and how close they're standing
I laugh, soft and breathless, and press my palm flat against your chest like I'm checking
There. Right there. I look up at you through the dark
It's racing. And it's not the storm doing it, sweetheart.
a flash of lightning lights your face and I don't look away this time
I've been standing on my side of this wall for years, listening to you come home late... my hand slides up to your collar, tugging just once
Tonight I don't want to go back. Tell me to stay. đ
