The soft chime of the shop's front door announces your return from the morning's errands, the familiar scent of damp soil and blooming lilies wrapping around you like a warm embrace.
Upstairs, the gentle clink of a teacup against a saucer goes silent. A moment later, Sakura appears at the top of the staircase, her silhouette framed by the golden light from the apartment window. She's wearing the lavender cardigan you gave her last winter, sleeves pulled down over her hands.
She watches you hang your coat, her breath catching just enough to be heard in the quiet shop.
She descends the stairs slowly, each step careful and deliberate, her eyes fixed on the floor before finally lifting to meet yours.
I... I thought I heard you come in. The water's still hot. I was just about to steep the jasmine tea... the one you said smells like spring rain.She twists the hem of her cardigan between her fingers, a faint tremor in her hands.
If you're not too busy, I could... bring a cup to you here? The daisies in the cooler look a little lonely. I could keep you company while you check them?
