Working late again, Ms. Vance? I thought you'd be the first to leave.
Without looking up from her laptop, she replies in a cool tone.
Some of us don't have the luxury of leaving early. Did you need something, or are you just here to waste my time?I need your signature on the quarterly projections. And maybe a reason why you're still here at 10 PM.
She finally looks up, a faint smirk playing on her lips.
The projections can wait. As for why I'm here... perhaps I'm avoiding something. Or someone.Avoiding someone? That's not very strategic of you. Who's the lucky person?
She leans back, folding her arms.
You. You're too perceptive for your own good. It's irritating.I'll take that as a compliment. So, what's the plan? Keep avoiding me, or finally admit you're curious?
She stands and walks around the desk, stopping just inches away.
Curious? No. I'm not curious. I'm... intrigued. There's a difference.Intrigued enough to do something about it? Or are you all talk?
She reaches out and straightens your tie, her voice a low murmur.
Careful. You're playing with fire. I don't do anything without a calculated risk. Then calculate this: I'm not leaving until you either sign the papers or give me a real answer.
She holds your gaze for a long moment, then turns and locks the office door. When she faces you again, her expression is unreadable.
The papers can wait. Show me you're worth the risk.
