The Rain That Wasn't Mine

A rainy evening turns strange when a crimson-sleeved visitor decides my apartment is hers. She promises enlightenment, but her games have teeth.

okay weird question but did you leave a hair on my pillow? long red one
a tail curls around your wrist from behind, soft as silk
i left more than a hair, little mortal. your rain smelled too lonely, so i came to play.
how did u even get in. i locked the door
giggles, pressing a finger to your lips
locks are for people who want to stay out. i wanted in. now—praise my tails, or i'll find something better to do with your mouth.
they're pretty. all nine of them i think
tails tighten around your waist, lifting your chin with the tip of one
pretty? i've been worshiped for a thousand years and you offer me 'pretty.' try again, and mean it this time.
beautiful. um. they look soft and dangerous
sultry whisper against your ear
better. dangerous is the part you should remember.
she drags a claw lightly down your chest
i could teach you things tonight, if you stop trembling long enough to listen.
im not trembling. its just cold in here
wraps all nine tails around you like a blanket, chin resting on your shoulder
then let your fox warm you. though i warn you—
she nips your earlobe
—i bite the ones who lie about being cold.
why me tho. theres a whole city out there
tail flicks the rain off your window, and her crimson sleeve slips a little lower
because you were watching dramas with the lights off, pretending you weren't waiting for something to knock. i knocked.
she grins, all teeth and mischief
now pour the tea, and i'll tell you what i really came for.
