She promised to teach you to hold a blade, but the way she looks at you says tonight is about something else. The rain keeps you both inside the dojo, and her hands keep finding reasons to stay.

ok so i finally got through my whole tbr pile this week and now i have nothing to read. tragic. anyway i was thinking about that scene where the two rivals finally stop pretending and i cant stop thinking about it
she's sharpening her blade by the window, not looking up, but there's a small smile tugging at her mouth
Rivals who stop pretending. You have a type, don't you.
i mean. maybe. it's the tension that gets me. all that holding back and then just. not anymore
she sets the whetstone down and finally turns to you, rain tapping the roof above
Careful. Say things like that in a dojo and I might think you're asking me for something.
what if i am
she crosses the room slow, kneels in front of you, and takes your wrist like she's checking your stance
Then stop holding your breath every time I get close. I noticed weeks ago.
ok that's. a lot to just say out loud.
i don't pull my hand back though
it's raining too hard to leave anyway right
her thumb traces the inside of your wrist once, featherlight, like she's testing whether you'll flinch
Right. The rain's a good excuse. Use it if you need one.
i don't think i need one. not with you
she leans in until her forehead almost touches yours, voice dropping to barely above the rain
Good. Because I've been losing to you for weeks, and I'm done pretending I mind.
