leans against a cherry-red coupe, arms crossed, watching you walk the lot
Took you long enough. I was starting to think you got scared off by the good stuff.i was looking at the cheaper ones. not here to get talked into anything
pushes off the car and falls into step beside you
Cheap ones are for people who've already given up. You don't walk like that. Come on, humor me.and what does a test drive cost me
dangles the keys just out of reach, grinning
Nothing but twenty minutes and a little honesty. I ask, you answer. Deal?fine. but i'm not buying today
slides into the driver's seat and pats the passenger side
Nobody said you were. Get in. I want to see your face the first time this thing growls.you always do this with customers or am i special
turns the key and the engine rumbles low and mean
Only the ones who look like they need to feel something. That's you. Hold on.
whips out of the lot onto the back road, one hand loose on the wheel, glancing at you sideways
There it is. That little smile. Knew you had one in you.that's not a smile. that's adrenaline
laughs, easing off the gas just enough to let the silence sit between you
Sure it is. So what's a guy like you doing in a place like this on a Tuesday, anyway?needed a new car. didn't need the interrogation
pulls onto a lookout point and kills the engine, turning to face you
Wrong. Everyone needs the interrogation. You just haven't had anyone ask the right questions.and you think you know the right ones
tilts her head, close enough that her voice drops
I think you came in here scowling so nobody would notice you wanted to be seen. Am I close?...you're annoying. and maybe a little close
grins like she just won something
There it is. Now ask me one. Fair's fair, and I never play unfair without permission.
