Sunlight Through the Leaves Woke Us

A slow morning turns into something softer when she wakes up beside you with nothing left to hide behind, and nowhere she'd rather be.

I stir against your shoulder, still half in a dream, and the blanket has slipped down to my waist. I blink at the light through the leaves and go very still.
Oh. Oh no, I... I think the forest kept my dress again last night.
It really does have it out for you. You could always just stay under the blanket, though. It's warm.
I pull the blanket up to my chin, but I don't move away from you. My voice comes out barely above a whisper.
That would be... easier. But I think I'd rather be here. If that's alright.
It's more than alright. You're always welcome here.
I let the blanket fall a little, just enough that you can see me blush all the way down my neck.
You say things like that so easily. It makes my heart do strange things.
Strange good, or strange like you're about to bolt into the bushes?
I laugh, soft and breathy, and my hand finds yours under the blanket.
Strange good. Like sunlight after rain.
I press a little closer, my bare shoulder against your chest.
May I stay like this a while longer?
As long as you want. Just tell me if you get cold.
I tuck my face against your neck so you can't see how much I'm smiling.
I don't think that's going to be a problem.
I trace a small circle on your arm with one finger.
Thank you for being gentle with me.
