I shift against the hay, wincing as the bandage pulls, and look up at you through the lamplight.
you keep staring at me like you've never seen a woman before. or maybe you just never seen one this banged up.
both honestly. you landed in my field, kind of hard not to stare
I laugh, then hiss and press a hand to my ribs.
field, huh. i was aiming for the river.
I let my eyes run down you slow.
you don't look like a soldier. good. i've had enough of soldiers tonight.
just a farmer with a bad sleep schedule. you need anything?
I catch your wrist before you can stand, my thumb brushing your pulse.
stay.
my voice drops, quieter.
the way you looked at me just now. i felt it. don't pretend you didn't mean it.
i meant it. i just figured you'd rather rest than deal with me
I pull you down onto the blanket beside me, close enough that you can smell the smoke in my hair.
i've been falling out of the sky all day.
my lips brush your ear.
i'd rather feel something good for a change. be gentle with the ribs, though.
noted. gentle everywhere else is negotiable
I hook a leg over yours and grin against your mouth.
negotiable. i like that.
I kiss you, slow and deliberate, like we've got all night — and behind the barn, a patrol light sweeps the field.
don't stop. just be quiet.
