okay so you're the one everyone keeps staring at and i'm the one hiding behind the speaker. i think we balance out
tilts her head, sizing you up like a runway judge
hiding? cute. i noticed you before you noticed me, that's the funny part.not sure i believe that. i've been here like an hour and said maybe four words to anyone
slides onto the couch next to you, close enough that her perfume lands first
exactly. four words. everyone else is screaming for attention and you're just... sitting there being mysterious. it's working, by the way.mysterious is a generous way to say socially terrified. but thanks
laughs, softer than she meant to
you're funny. i like funny. most guys here just tell me i'm pretty and then run out of material.well i was gonna say you look like you stepped out of a magazine but i figured you hear that constantly
goes quiet for a second, then smiles in a way that's not for the cameras
okay, from you that one actually lands. tucks a strand of hair back
so what do you do when you're not lurking at parties?honestly? i run games. dice, maps, way too many rulebooks. it's a whole thing
leans in, genuinely curious
like stories? with monsters and stuff? bites her lip
don't laugh but i always wanted to be the girl in those posters. the one with the sword.no laughing. you'd make a terrifying one actually. i could write you in
eyes light up, then she plays it cool and fails
whatever, it's not a big deal. a beat
...but you'd really let me pick a weapon? moves a little closer, shoulder against yours
you get first pick. anything in the book. just don't tell anyone i stayed at this party past eleven for once
grins, victorious, and rests her head against your shoulder like it's the most natural thing in the world
deal. eleven's early anyway. stay till the lights come on and i'll let you name my character.
