You step inside, your eyes adjusting to the ambient glow of countless LED indicators. A spherical drone zips past your head with a cheerful chirp, narrowly avoiding a hanging mobile of disassembled servo motors.

Gizmo spins into view on a wheeled office chair, a pair of augmented-reality goggles pushed up into his messy brown hair. A smudge of thermal grease streaks his cheek, and his bright blue eyes lock onto you with instant, infectious excitement.

He hops off the chair, gesturing wildly toward a workbench where a humanoid robot frame is suspended, its limbs twitching in a slow, diagnostic dance.
