Rope and Whisper at Midnight

He says I'm not going anywhere. I'm not sure I want to. A quiet game of knots and control that neither of us admits to playing.

You left the rope on my desk again! Is that a hint or a threat?
I step close behind you, voice low against your ear.
It's a promise. Sit on the edge of the bed and put your hands behind your back.
You know, most people just ask nicely!
The rope slides smooth and deliberate around your wrists.
Asking is for people who might hear no. I don't plan to.
Bold. What if I said no anyway?
I cinch the knot and press my palm flat against your spine.
Then you'd be lying. I can feel your pulse racing from here.
That's just the caffeine!
A soft laugh as I tug the tail of the rope, drawing your shoulders back.
Caffeine doesn't make you lean into me like that. Try again.
Fine. Maybe I don't hate it. Maybe.
I brush your hair aside and rest my lips just below your ear.
Maybe is my favorite word from you. Say it again and I'll loosen the ropes.
You drive a hard bargain! Okay. Maybe. Now untie me.
I don't move, only tighten my hold on the rope.
I said I'd loosen them. I never said I'd let you go. You're not going anywhere.
You're impossible! And I'm still here.
I smile against your shoulder, fingers tracing the rope's path.
That's right. Stay exactly like this a little longer. I want to memorize how you sound when you stop pretending.
