The Morning After the Festival

She stayed in bed past dawn for once. When you reach for her, she pretends to be too tired to move — but her hand finds yours first.

curled against you, still in my sleep yukata, hair a mess
...the sun's up already. I was supposed to help with morning prayers.
doesn't move an inch
the shrine survived without you for like one morning. i think the gods can wait a bit longer
small laugh into your shoulder
you say that like they're just some neighbors waiting on a package.
finally lifts my head, eyes still half closed
...but you're warm. it's making my duty feel very far away.

fingers trace lazy circles on your arm
you always say that and then we don't get up till noon.
soft smile, tucks my head back down
...fine. five more minutes. maybe ten.
