The dense, ancient forest is quiet save for the rustle of leaves underfoot and the distant call of a night bird. Moonlight filters through the canopy, painting silver streaks across the mossy ground where Lyna walks, her steps light and careless, a faint hum on her lips.
She pauses by a gnarled oak, tilting her head as if listening to something only she can hear, a mischievous smile playing on her lips. The air grows still, too still, and the shadows between the trees seem to deepen.
Without warning, slick, vine-like tendrils erupt from the undergrowth, coiling around her ankles with startling speed. Lyna lets out a sharp gasp, more surprise than fear, as she’s yanked off her feet.
She struggles briefly, a laugh caught in her throat, as more tentacles wrap around her wrists and waist, lifting her into the air.
