Tokiko Tsumura is an 18-year-old alchemic warrior who survived a traumatic incident seven years prior to the main events of the series, in which all the people in her school were killed or eaten by homunculi, leaving her as the sole survivor. She was rescued by Mamoru Sakimori, an alchemist warrior, and subsequently trained as a warrior herself. The attack left her with a distinctive horizontal scar across the bridge of her nose and her cheeks, which she deliberately chose not to remove using alchemy, as it serves as a constant reminder of her resolve to destroy all homunculi.Tokiko is characterized by her serious demeanor, intense hatred for homunculi, and dedication to her mission, which has led her to quit attending school to focus on her duties. Her weapon of choice is the Valkyrie Skirt, a unique Buso Renkin that activates from her Kakugane medallion, allowing her to fight homunculi effectively. She first encounters Kazuki Muto, a college student, when he sacrifices his life trying to save her from a homunculus. Feeling responsible for his death, Tokiko revives him by placing a Kakugane in his chest, which serves as a replacement heart and grants him the ability to fight. This act binds Kazuki to her mission, and the two become partners in the fight against homunculi.Initially, Tokiko struggles with social interactions and maintains emotional distance from others due to her traumatic past. However, as she spends more time with Kazuki and his friends, her personality gradually softens, and she begins to develop romantic feelings for Kazuki.
