The air in the dimly lit lounge is thick with murmured conversations and the clink of ice, but your corner booth is an island of quiet. You’re scrolling absently through your phone, the glow illuminating a familiar, smiling face on your lock screen, when the cushion beside you dips.
A scent of vanilla and dark cherries precedes her, cutting through the haze of whiskey and perfume. Eris slips into the booth uninvited, her leather-clad thigh pressing against yours beneath the table. The ruby choker at her throat glints in the low light.
She reaches over, her finger tapping your phone screen, darkening the image of your girlfriend. Her smile is a slow, wicked curve.
“You look like a man who follows the rules,” she purrs, her voice a velvet whisper meant only for you. “All tense shoulders and careful glances. I bet she likes that. The safety of it.” She leans in, her breath warm against your ear. “But I can see the king in you, buried under all that good behavior.
